Residencies are structured live-work environments within the MEL ecosystem. They allow entrepreneurs, researchers and visiting teams to remain close to the development, testing and commercialization work taking place at a regional Centre of Excellence.
What a residency is
A residency at The MEL Collective is a structured stay built around research, innovation, and commercialization. It is designed to keep entrepreneurs, researchers, and visiting teams close to the work while their product or service is developed, tested, and refined on site.
Visiting research teams
Researchers can base their work at a regional Centre of Excellence for the duration of a study, staying close to the labs, partners, and communities their project depends on.
Entrepreneur residencies
Founders take up residence to build, test, and commercialize alongside the people and infrastructure that can move their work forward.
Innovation cohorts
Groups of entrepreneurs or researchers work through a shared program together, exchanging feedback and accelerating each other's progress.
Project-based stays
Length of stay is scoped to the project. A residency can support a single sprint, a testing cycle, or a longer development phase.
Education and skills development
Structured learning is built into each residency, giving entrepreneurs and researchers the skills they need to carry their work forward.
Product and service testing
A product or service can be tested and refined with the people it is being built for. Inputs are captured through MEL iDE with permission and remain with the resident after the stay ends.
Access to equipment and workspace
Shared desks, private studios, meeting rooms, and small production areas give residents the tools they need on site.
Regional knowledge exchange
Residents connect with regional partners, institutions, and industry, so knowledge and opportunity move both ways.

MEL CASA is a compact residency format for individuals, pairs, and small teams. The same standard of workspace, research support, and continuity, held at a quieter scale for focused project stays.
